Whistles blown… but does Facebook own you?

According to 2 whistleblowers, Facebook  cares more about profits than the health and wellbeing of its users. And we are all soooooo surprised by that information. (not)

Here’s the Five Fast Facts on what Facebook is costing you (in both $$ and life) and what you can do about it:

⌛❓ Too much social increases the therapy bill and decreases quality of life. The average person spends over 2 hrs a day on social media. Research shows that issues like depression and eating disorders (especially amongst kids and teens) can get worse as time on social media increases. Some say social media is like alcohol: it can be fun in moderation, but also depressing, and super addictive!

💸👻Your Facebook posts can come back to haunt you - 70% of employers use social media to screen new hires and & countless people get fired every year for what they say on social media. So remember, next time you share that spicy meme or torch someone in the comments section, it could cost you $$..

🤑🤏Social media evens the playing field for small businesses - 60% of shoppers discover new products through social media. Plus, it's 3x cheaper for small businesses to advertise on social media compared with traditional advertising.

💻🤔 “It’s not you. It's me. We need a break” - Use your phone to set limits on the amount of time you spend on social media… and you could  see a big decrease in depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Here are some of the best ways to set limits for you or your family.

😌🍂 You can take back some control… If you want extra protection online then consider also limiting what data you give to the tech companies. You can easily disable tracking on most apps or websites (like Facebook&Google). You’ll get less targeted ads and you’ll avoid the dreaded FOMO (fear of missing out) that comes when something new piques your interest.

🔥Bottom line: Don’t let social media hurt you or your paycheck. Set limits and be careful about what you share even in private groups. Even groups that seem super closed off and private are not safe. Folks have been fired for chatting in private groups before and it is bound to happen again!
