The “Great Resignation” + How to Quit Your Job

😅🤷‍♂️The only thing not quitting… apparently… is us writing about people quitting their jobs.

🚂💨We thought the work-leaving train was about to stop, but instead, it just gained speed!

Here’s what you need to know about the situation and what you can do if you also want to hop on the quitting train:

How bad is it? At least 4.3 million workers have left their jobs since August (an increase of 242,000 from the previous month.) All in all, the quitters rose to 2.9% of the entire workforce in just the past few months!

💸🤔How can so many Americans afford not to work? Some think it’s a mix of stimmy checks, UI benefits, child tax credits, and  rising home values.

👷💵Good news for working Paychecks? - A lot of the quitters are lower and middle class folks looking for greener pastures:service jobs, hospitality, warehouse workers. Ya know, the folks whose income hasn’t really gone up that much in recent years. At least 55% of them are looking for a job with flexible hours and remote work.

🏃🏢How do I tell if I’m ready to call it quits?-  Make sure you have some of that sweet cabbage saved up. You’re going to need money in the bank if you want to quit because it takes most people 3-6 months to get a new job.

🏥👀 Remember your health insurance - About half of us get our health insurance through work. And when you lose your job, you might lose the insurance that comes with it. So, remember to join a family member’s plan, look into COBRA (not the snake🐍), check out Medicaid, or browse the ACA Marketplace (open enrollment starts soon!)

🔥Bottom line: Jobs are important not only for paying the bills but also for the people we meet along the way. If it's time for you or someone you know to make a change then hopefully this newsletter helps them! Also, if you have any good quitting stories then be sure to let us know on Social Media!
