We fought the law and the law won. Don’t worry, we were good sports! We shook hands and said “good game” before escaping their clutches. 😜🏃
We might not be that great at keeping up with the Kardashians, but we do keep the pulse on new state laws! 🫡 Let’s take a look at what’s on deck for Ohio this month. ⏬
Here’s Five Fast Facts on new laws in the Buckeye State:
- 📋 Inspector Gadget - Want to challenge a building inspector’s decision? Thanks to SB 6 (dropping 9/30), you’ll now be required to file an appeal within one business day. Then, the local appeals board has five business days to hold a hearing. Good news: these hearings can happen virtually, so no need to fight traffic.
- 🚔 Don’t Quote Me - Dad may have told you that cops love handing out speeding tickets to meet a monthly quota. Well, gone are those days! SB 114 prohibits law enforcement agencies from using arrests or citation quotas. Note: that’s not a free pass to go full turbo on the highway.
- 🦃 On the Hunt - Seniors who love the outdoors, rejoice! HB 64 lowers the qualifying age for discounted hunting and fishing licenses from 66 to 65. This age reduction applies to hunting and fishing licenses, deer and wild turkey permits, fur taker permits, as well as multiyear and lifetime licenses.
- 🚘 Behind the Wheel - Effective 9/30, anyone under 21 will be required to complete Ohio’s state-approved driver’s ed program. In the past, anyone aged 18 through 20 could get a license without taking the “Class D” course. This new change closes that loophole.
- 🧑💻 Locking In - With cybercrimes on the rise, Ohio’s stepping up their cybersecurity game. Through HB 96, local governments, counties, municipalities and townships are required to implement a cybersecurity framework (like NIST or CIS). The law also outlines what needs to be included on those frameworks and has guidelines on how to handle ransom demands.
🔥Bottom line: From building inspections to driver’s ed, Ohio’s got a busy month of new rules on tap for September. As we head into the fall season, now’s a great time to check in on your financial goals. Wondering how millionaires manage their money? Find out in this article!
