All The Good Things

Georgia's economy is absolutely slaying right now! Unemployment is beating the national average, state GDP is strong, personal income is up, and the Dawgs are projected to be on top of the SEC again. What more could we want? How about a little more cash in the pocket? It's an election year, so one might expect the politicians to be a little more generous than normal to us little folk, but even so this is shaping up to be a very good year. Let's get into the good stuff!

Here are Five Fast Facts on Georgia's economy absolutely slaying right now:

  1. 💰 Billion Dollar Refund - Lawmakers and Gov. Kemp have passed a new $44 billion budget that tosses $2 billion back to the citizens of Georgia, proving that sometimes the government actually remembers where they get their allowance from.
  1. 📨 The Check Is In The Mail - With this budget, families may get tax rebate checks of up to $1k! Teachers and state workers will also get a $2k bonus! Who wouldda thunk there would ever be a tax jackpot for workers??
  1. 👍 And Yet... - Even after giving back all that cash, lawmakers still found $409 million for a new mental health hospital, $325 million for college scholarships, and $150 million for prison expansions. It's amazing what some fiscal responsibility can do, isn't it?
  1. 📉 Going Down - The budget also includes $850 million in property tax relief, which should save the average homeowner about $500 (enough for approximately 11 triple shot oat milk frappuccino macchiato mocha lattes).
  1. 🏢 Big Business - Where's all this cash coming from, you might ask? Great question! From the increase in economic activity during the last three budget cycles. Apparently, making a place business-friendly tends to bring in businesses, which means people spend money, and voila...tax revenues through the roof!

🔥Bottom line: The point is that the state's economy is in great shape, and our lawmakers have decided that's good news for taxpayers! Indeed, 2026 is looking like a year when the government finally decided to stop being the Grinch and start being Santa Claus. While some people are worried this "tax-cutting binge" is just a fancy way to buy votes, most taxpayers will probably be too busy cashing their checks to care.
