Amazon Data Centers Coming to PA

How do data scientists eat their food? Why, in megabytes of course. 👾 We’d tell you our joke about data mining, but you probably won’t dig it.

Big tech companies are in a race to keep up with AI as it poisons us with brain rot…oops, we mean…as it grows at a rapid pace! 📈🤖 What’s the answer? More data centers, and they’re coming to the Keystone State.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Amazon’s data centers in PA:

  1. 🦓 Jungle Juice - Baller baldie Jeff Bezos wants to grow his Amazon jungle. The company claims it’s dropping a cool $20 billion on data centers in Pennsylvania to expand cloud computing and AI capabilities. This mega private sector investment is set to go down as the largest of its kind the state’s ever seen.
  1. 💻 Data Dump - Where will the new data centers go? One is in the works next to the Susquehanna nuclear power plant in the northeastern part of the state. The other one will find a home at the Keystone Trade Center logistics campus in Fairless Hills. All in, the project will create an estimated 1,200 permanent jobs.
  2. 🔌 Power Rangers - Talen Energy, majority owner of the Susquehanna nuclear power plant, sold its own data center (and the land next to it) last year to Amazon. According to the deal,  Talen gets $650 million to provide 960 megawatts of electricity, which is enough to power over half a million households.
  1. 💸 Million-Dollar Baby - According to Governor Shapiro, this is just the beginning of a bigger partnership with Amazon. Additional data centers are likely on the way and the state plans on throwing the tech giant tens of millions of incentive dollars. Shapiro also said his administration will pony up $10 million to fund training classes statewide to meet the project’s skills demand.
  2. 📦 Prime Delivery - PA’s not the only state Bezos has his eyes on. Amazon’s committed to data center projects nationwide since the beginning of 2024. Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Ohio got a commitment of $10 billion each. Nothing to sneeze at!

🔥Bottom line: The further we go with technology, the more we’ll see companies shelling out big bucks to keep the dream alive. Let’s hope the average consumer isn’t footing the energy bill. With all this talk about AI needing to gobble up more power, it’s a matter of time before the robots take over! OK maybe that’s a little dramatic, but AI is for sure reshaping the workforce.
