Amtrak Service Is Getting a Boost in Ohio

Riding a train is such a treat. 🚂 There's something about staring out of a train window while listening to your favorite emo song that just feels so…main character. Pro tip: don't be so into your feelings that you miss your stop. 🎶🤦🏻‍♀️

The Biden Administration recently announced they'd set aside $8 billion for major rail projects nationwide. 💰 According to the Federal Railroad Administration, Ohio's up for potential expansion of Amtrak passenger rail service through four key corridors. Yippee!

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio's Amtrak expansion plan:

  1. 🚆 Route for the Home Team - A few of the routes selected for development plans are: Cincinnati-Dayton-Columbus-Cleveland, Cleveland-Toledo-Detroit, and Chicago-Fort Wayne-Columbus-Pittsburgh with connector service via Lima, Kenton, Marysville, Newark, Cochocton, Newcomerstown, Uhrichsville, and Steubenville.
  2. 🚄 Eastbound & Down - The plan would also increase Amtrak's current route frequency to Cincinnati from New York, Washington, D.C., and Chicago.
  1. 💲 Choo-Choo-Cha-Ching - $500,000 from the Federal Railroad Administration will go towards planning in each of these four identified corridors.
  1. 🛤️ Right on Track - The funding comes from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Officials say these improvements will help grow businesses, create jobs, and help Midwestern communities stay connected.
  1. 📋 I'm a Planner - This current round of funding will be used mostly for planning purposes. The state can also put the money towards funding operating costs and making track improvements.

🔥Bottom line: Don't get too excited yet. This recent announcement is only about the planning stage, nothing's set in stone. Hopefully they'll get moving so we can get moving on those trains.
