Are You Being "Quiet Fired?"

Move over, quiet quitters. There's a new pandemic sweeping the cubicle farm! 🐄 The term “quiet firing” is the latest buzzword to hit the interwebz and it's a whole different animal.

It's kinda like when you stopped wearing deodorant to ward off that pesky nerd who wanted to take you out in high school. 🦨 Quiet firing sounds a lot like making things so *stanky* that bad employees leave so managers don't have to fire them. It's not me, it's you.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Quiet Firing™:

  1. 🙈 Nothing to See Here - A recent poll on LinkedIn found that out of 200,000 responses, about 48% said they've witnessed a co-worker being quiet fired. Have you seen my stapler?
  2. 😡 Horrible Bosses - Examples of quiet firing include denying raises for years on end, blocking employees from promotions, and not giving helpful feedback. Also, having your desk moved to the basement.
  3. 😤 More Than Money - Research shows that the top reason people quit their jobs is a lack of opportunity for career growth. A close second was leaders who just don't shiv a git.
  4. 📣 Talk It Out - Experts say that the trends of quiet quitting and quiet firing are both signs of a lack of communication between managers and employees. In other words, maybe both sides need to put their adult pants on and use their words.
  5. 🆘 I Saw The Sign - Are you being quitted on (or is it quat on)? Signs include your manager being chronically MIA for your one-on-ones, being put on a performance improvement plan (PIP PIP HOORAY), and unexpected changes in your duties.

🔥Bottom line: While quiet quitting is all the rage these days, apparently sticking it to the man can backfire (no kidding 🙄). It's fun to do the bare minimum, but not everyone's going to reward that kind of behavior with the raise you deserve. Why not try revamping your resume and hitting the job boards for a new gig instead? Because sometimes, a crap-ola paycheck is still better than none at all.

Are you or any of your friends/fam being “quiet fired?!”
