Keep your eye on the water for the next few months. Cargo shipping is down in Green Bay and that could be bad news for 2020.
Here’s Five Fast Facts About Green Bay’s Cargo Concerns:
- 🚢 Heavy Weight - Green Bay’s port has an annual goal of 2M tons of cargo. It’s down to 1.5M tons. There’s also a 7% drop in cargo totals over the past year. So far, there have been 129 ships, compared to 148 ships this time last year.
- 📉 Raw Talk - The drop in cargo means the agriculture, construction, and manufacturing industries are ordering fewer raw materials. The other side of that, however, is the 46% increase in coal imports. Cement appears to be solid (heh), too.
- 🛥️ Slow Going - The current season started off slow out of the gate, down 32% from last year. Clearly the difference was made up!
- ⏱️ Strong Finish - Officials remain optimistic, pointing out that the past season closed out with a 3% increase in shipments.
- 💵 Lots of Stuff - The port receives shipments of raw materials including limestone, cement, petroleum products, salt, and coal.
🔥Bottom line: Looks like it’s going to be a sprint to the finish. We’ve already dealt with enough trouble with supply chain issues, so this is the absolute last thing we need for the economy. Do your best to remain optimistic because numbers like this tend to be fickle.
