Better Have My Money

Good news! Some Minnesota projects have secured a nice chunk of federal funding in the 2023 fiscal year. We’re talking millions.

Here’s Five Fast Facts About New Federal Funding:

  1. 💸 Lucky 7 - A total of approximately $7M is going towards workforce development programs for manufacturing and transportation, along with new energy facilities, medical research, and essential health facility upgrades.
  2. 💰 Where? - The projects are all centered in Rochester, Austin, and other Southeast Minnesota communities.
  3. 👂 Earmarky-mark - The grants were made available through Congressionally Directed Spending. You might also know it as earmarking. But before you flip out, it’s a positive example of the process. The money can only go to non-profit entities to carry out a specific project they listed on the application.
  4. ♻️ The Big R - Get ready for a nosebleed (you know who I’m talking to): $2M of that money is going toward renewable energy projects.
  5. 🗓️ Here it Comes - Recipients will see the money rolling in over the next few months.

🔥Bottom line: These projects are all designed to help improve our state’s future. From skilled new workers to important healthcare development (and yes, to renewable energy), none of this is technically a bad thing. Why it’s only centered on the southeast part of the state is kind of weird, but it could be just a drawback of the application process.
