Which test do medical students hate the most? The one on kidney stones. It’s the hardest to pass. 😆 They also tried looking up abdominal pain books in the library, but someone ripped the appendix out. 🥀📓
All doctor jokes aside, Ohio’s free clinics are the real deal. Let’s dive into how they serve people throughout the Buckeye State. ⬇️
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio’s free clinics:
- 👩🏻⚕️ Serving Health - Ohio’s Charitable Healthcare Network (CHN) is made up of 59 free and charitable clinics, serving uninsured/underinsured Ohioans in 86 counties. Services they provide include primary and behavioral care, dental, vision, and prescriptions.
- 📈 Care Power - Over 715,000 health care services were fulfilled by CHN in 2024. That’s up 10% from 2023. The total value of last year’s care hit $225 million. Thanks to CHN, Ohio residents in need were able to avoid expensive medical emergencies and stay working.
- 💊 Flip the Script - Which types of conditions are treated the most by CHN? Chronic illnesses, including heart disease and diabetes. The organization filled close to 347,000 prescriptions for these conditions, helping folks manage them before they turn into bigger problems.
- 💰 Mind the Gap - According to the latest Census data, around 700,000 Ohioans don’t have health insurance. Many patients served by CHN are working adults, but are also victims of coverage gaps. In other words, they make too much for government assistance, but too little to afford private health care.
- 🩺 What’s Up Doc - CHN is largely supported by funding from the state. Last year, the state invested $1.75M in free and charitable clinics. However, as the need for these services increases, donations are becoming more important than ever. Check out CharitableHealth.org for ways to help out.
🔥Bottom line: With another tax season right around the corner, now’s the perfect time to donate to your favorite charitable cause. Remember, it’s a write-off, Jerry!
