Calling All STEM Workers…OH Wants YOU!

Would you move to Ohio? 🧳 If you work in STEM, don’t be surprised if Buckeye State company recruiters slide into your DMs. 📨

A brand new JobsOhio initiative is throwing companies a pretty nice bone for bringing in top talent. Let’s look at the fine print. 🕵️

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio’s plans to bring in out-of-state STEM workers:

  1. 🙋 Come On Over - JobsOhio’s new program to bring in top talent from outside of the state officially kicks off in July. Through the Jobs Ohio Relocation Program (JORI), companies will get a monetary boost for every out-of-stater they bring in. Industries in science, tech, engineering, and math (STEM) will be the main focus.
  1. 🧪 STEM Gang - Over the next decade, it’s estimated that the demand for STEM jobs will grow three times the rate of other jobs. In Ohio alone, experts say the state will need around 540,000 skilled workers by 2032.
  1. 💸 Bonus Bucks - JORI will run off a $50M investment and companies of all sizes are eligible to participate. The program includes a total investment of $50 million and is available to companies of all sizes. For each hire, participating companies will get $15K. Incentives are capped at $225,000 per company, or 15 hires.
  1. ✅ Let’s Goal - The main goal of JORI is to bring in 3,000 new out-of-state STEM workers to the Buckeye State. They also hope this will cut down on talent poaching in-state. Companies who receive funding through JORI can use the money towards sign-on bonuses, relocation packages, and out-of-state recruiting activities.
  1. 🥂 Cheers! - Funding for JobsOhio comes from a long-term lease of the state's liquor franchise (AKA state liquor sales). The program also uses money to attract and subsidize projects that develop the state economy. Recently, funding for JobsOhio was extended through 2053.

🔥Bottom line: Don’t listen to Gen Alpha’s jokes about how boring Ohio is. Who else has the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Cedar Point? Oh, and Dave Chappelle. Did you know that you don’t always need a degree to land a big company job? Mosey on over to this article to learn more.
