Snap! Crackle! … Expand?
That’s the plan for cereal giant Kellogg, which will split into three companies later this year. What does it mean for your cereal? Will it be grrr-eat? Let’s find out.
Here’s Five Fast Facts …… :
- 💨 Old Fart - Did you know the Battle Creek-based Kellogg Company is 116 years old!? Poor Tony must be one tired Tiger.
- 🤤 The Good Stuff - The company has been more than just breakfast cereal for some time. They produce foods under the Morning Star, Eggo, and Pringle brands, among others. Even Cheez-its and Pop-Tarts are made by Kellogg!
- 🪓The Split- The company will be divided into three smaller companies by type - cereals, snacks, and the ever-growing plant-based foods.
- ❓❓ Why the change? - According to Kellogg CEO Steve Cahillane, separating the businesses will make them more “nimble”. I’d say Snap, Crackle, and Pop are pretty “nimble” already... But in the end, the company feels separate, and smaller companies will be better able to focus on their own products. That makes sense.
- 👨🏭 What about the jobs? - Back in 2021, the company announced they’d be laying off about 200 people. Workers promptly went on strike, forcing the company to backtrack and find other solutions to its budget woes. They landed on this split, so we can only assume that this means that layoffs are not currently on the breakfast table. But we’ll keep our eye on it.
🔥Bottom line: Who didn’t grow up eating the iconic Kellogg brand cereals? Right? The good news is they’re not going away, and neither are good-paying jobs. So eat up and feel good doing it. We’ll let you know if anything changes.
