So there’s this super creepy, abandoned factory building that’s been sitting around empty since 2012, scaring kids and local pigeons. But good news! Michigan’s clean-up crew is stepping in with a $750,000 cleanup grant to turn it into a new headquarters and get some people back to work. Safety, jobs, and fewer spooky vibes—win-win-win!
Here are Five Fast Facts about a major cleanup project in West Branch:
- 🧹 Massive Mold-Colony Gone! - They’re using a $750,000 Brownfield Grant to clear out gross stuff like lead paint, asbestos, contaminated soil, and maybe even the ghost of a bicycle. Because nobody (normal) wants to relocate there if it’s haunted.
- 🏢 From Hazard Zone to HQ - The once-scary 84,150-square-foot site will get cleaned up and turned into a headquarters, warehouse, and factory space. It's basically a glow-up for a building older than most Millennials.
- 💲 New Jobs Incoming - The makeover will provide 20 full-time jobs, which means a bunch of locals get paid, and maybe learn cool stuff like “how not to inhale asbestos.”
- 😀 Downtown to the Rescue - The project covers 7.75 acres and is part of the plan to make downtown West Branch feel less like a ghost town and more like a place where funny coffee shops and bookstores hang out.
- ❄️ Winter 2025 Grand Re-Opening - Everything’s expected to be wrapped up by winter 2025, just in time for people to stay warm inside the building instead of outside sneezing at the ruins.
🔥Bottom line: So yes, a seriously haunted-looking, chemical-laced abandoned site is getting a makeover that’s smarter than a highlighter on a homework packet. We’re talking jobs, safety, and a whole lot fewer “Do not enter - evil inside!” signs. Quite the upgrade, West Branch!
