Damage in the Dairyland

Inflation bad blah blah blah. No need to go over it. But (and you knew there was going to be a “but”) inflation in Wisconsin is higher than the national average. What gives?!?!?!

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Wisconsin’s Inflation Problem

  1. 📈💰How High? - It’s at 9% everywhere in Wisconsin from Fond du Lac to Madison. The national average is 8.5% (the highest in 40 years, btw.)
  2. 🧀🪵Why so high? - Supply chain problems make it so that everything from paper mills and cheese factories have trouble getting the supplies they need. This is extra bad for Wisconsin because, well, we build stuff and we rely on (newly) expensive stuff like gas, lumber, and other raw materials.
  3. 🥩🐔Pain at the grocery store and the factory - Yes, the butcher block is getting hit pretty hard. We’re talking poultry, beef, all that good stuff is up to 16.8% more   expensive in Wisconsin compared to the rest of the country. If only there were a way for these high prices to hurt vegans, too…
  4. ⏬🤑Is there any good news? - Wisconsin ranks under the national unemployment average at 3%. So people are still working. Plus, we’re not Minnesota. The Vikings suck.
  5. ⏫📈What does this mean for my paycheck? You’re going to keep paying more because prices are going to keep going up for the foreseeable future  unless the federal reserve raises the interest rate above zero. Unless you want to move to Mississippi where it’s a lot cheaper but please don’t, Wisconsin needs you.

🔥Bottom line: It ain't getting any cheaper out there, especially because of our state’s specialized industries. On the plus side, there’s never been a better time to ask for a raise than right now, and that may help offset costs a little bit.
