Tired of boring cover letters that just disappear into the digital abyss? Well, there's a new way to get hired that ditches the snooze-worthy cover letter in favor of something much more interesting. Can a little creativity like this can go a long way in your job search? Let's explore!
Here are Five Fast Facts on ditching cover letters:
- 🛝 Slide Into A Job - This new-fangled way of applying for jobs uses a "personalized slide deck" for each company where you apply instead of a boring old cover letter. Not only is it unique and will stand out from the pile, but it also sounds way more epic.
- 👀 Copycat Style - Create the deck using the company's logo, colors, and style. You can usually get all of this from their website, or at least a close enough approximation to make them do a double take (and that gets you noticed!).
- 👍 Who You Are - In this epic deck, you introduce yourself with things like your favorite quote and interests, as well as your qualifications. All should point directly to why YOU are the EXACT person for the specific job, of course.
- 🔢 Key Content - The deck should include key achievements quantified with metrics, and a custom analysis of the target company's challenges, which is a fancy way of showing that you did your homework and that you're awesome.
- 🤝 Sharing Is Hiring - Make sure to also include how you align with the company's values. This is almost always available on the company's website or LinkedIn page. For extra effect, grab an image of the company's HQ or something similar. And say thank you at the end!
🔥Bottom line: So, the next time you're looking for a job and want to stand out from the crowd, forget the stuffy cover letter. Grab your favorite slideshow tool, get creative, and show them you're the hero they've been waiting for! Design beats words, and while this will take more effort than a plain cover letter, it’s like baking cookies instead of buying them: takes time, but totally worth it.
