Enrollment Growth Puts Wisconsin Tech Colleges on the Dean’s List

Wisconsin colleges and universities took a big hit during the pandemic, but it’s starting to turn around at our technical colleges with a double-digit increase!

Here’s Five Fast Facts about Increased Enrollment at Wisconsin Technical Colleges:

  1. 📉 Subtraction - Let’s get this out of the way first: overall, the Wisconsin Technical College System took a 13.2% hit in enrollment during the pandemic.
  2. 📈 Addition - It’s now up by 10% on average at all 16 technical colleges during the 2021/22 school year.
  3. 🎓 Top of the Class - Nicolet Area Technical College tops the list with a 21.9 percent increase. Western Technical in Lacrosse saw a 19% increase. It doesn’t take a math major to figure out that’s pretty impressive.
  4. 🧑‍🏫 Nice Flex - The colleges have made some smart changes to encourage that enrollment. That includes flexible class schedules for working parents and more online options.
  5. 👨‍💻 Buy Local - Local businesses are helping through contract training. Students are actually learning on the job from tech school instructors, getting that education while filling needed positions at the same time.

🔥Bottom line: This is great news for the state, especially in the face of a labor shortage. They’re matching workers with needed skills and matching those newly-skilled workers with open jobs. It’s a smart move that shows everyone, from the state to the student to the businesses that are actually getting (wait for it) educated on how things need to work post-pandemic.
