U.S. News' latest Best Places to Retire list is hot off the press, and five happening PA hometowns made the top ten! 🏆
Here’s Five Fast Facts on the top PA towns for retirement:
- 🧑🌾 Lancaster (#1) - From Amish farmland to a bustling downtown area, Lancaster has a lil' somethin' for everyone. The average home price is $226,550 and commute time is below the national average. Fun fact: you'll get your fair share of delicious smells from the local Kellogg's plant, Mars Chocolate factory, and the world's largest chicken barbecue spot.
- 🏞️ Harrisburg (#2) - Famous for being the PA state capital, Harrisburg is also known for outdoor fun along the Susquehanna River. It has an affordable housing market and a cheaper cost of living compared to other East Coast cities. Fun fact: Harrisburg's just a quick drive away from Hersheypark and Gettysburg National Park.
- 🏡🎩 York (#5) - Before there was New York, there was...old York?! Close-ish to the Maryland border, this charming PA town has a ton of restored Colonial-era dwellings, and the average home price is just $176,650. Fun fact: York was the nation's capital and home to the Continental Congress for a hot minute.
- 🏗️ Allentown (#9) - Allentown's not just a Billy Joel song. The former industrial hub is PA's third largest metro area and an easy car ride to both Philadelphia and New York City. 🔥Bottom line: While retiree ground zero Florida has a ton of cities in the top ten, PA is a great option for retirees who wanna avoid sunburn and Disney fans. Pennsylvania's got history, gorgeous scenery, and some all around nice people (even in Philly, yo). The Keystone State might be known for cold winters and some wild weather, but hey at least it's not New Jersey!
