We all have that one friend - you know the type - always engaged in seemingly endless online cage fights, typing out big smack all over social media about the politicians they hate.
But are they putting their money where their big fat fingers are? Likely not. Statistics tell us that while up to 60% of us vote in presidential elections, that number is much lower in midterm elections - usually less than 20% of Michiganders.
We're here to tell you that NOT voting in midterm elections is stupid. So if you're a good friend, you'll help your ragey friend not be stupid, using these argument-proof reasons.
Five Reasons Your Friend Would be Stupid Not to Vote in the Midterms…:
- 🐶 All Politics are Local - Tell your friend to shut up about the President already. That guy doesn't control how much we pay in taxes here in Michigan, how good our schools are, or whether or not we get a new dog park. Those are local issues, decided at the city and/or state level.
- 💡 There are No Bad Ideas - Does your friend want to be a real-life influencer? It's way easier to make changes in your city than to put an idea in front of 535 congress people who make debating issues their job. So tell your friend to vote for people sympathetic to their cause and go pitch that idea for the dog park of their dreams.
- 👵 Do it for Grandma - Look, let's get real. It's only been a little over a hundred years since women won the right to vote in this country. What better way for your friend to honor their Granny than by exercising the right she and her friends fought for.
- 🏓 Bragging Rights - Your friend probably likes to win. Remember that time they almost knocked you off with a rogue serve during Beer Pong? Right. Well, voting provides the same kind of rush without the danger. Just don't forget the sticker. It's proof that you and your friend are better than every stickerless person out there.
- 🥱 It's Freaking Easy - This ain't no big commitment. These days you don't even have to change out of your pajamas to vote. Thanks to new regulations in Michigan, you can vote absentee for any reason you like – no lame excuse required.
🔥Bottom line: Voting is not hard. Voting no longer means long lines and pressure-filled decisions. Therefore, voting is the surefire way to not be stupid. So tell your friend. Heck, tell ten friends.
