Five Ways to Butter Up a Bad Boss

What’s your go-to excuse for calling out of work? Ours is a case of the runs.🏃 Who’s gonna argue with that sh*t? #literally 😆💩

Bosses come in all shapes, sizes, and flavors. Some are sweet. Others? More sour than the first lick of a Lemonhead. 🍋 If you’ve got the sour kind, we have a few ways to beat them at their own game.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on tackling a tough boss:

  1. ⏩ Making Progress - Working on a big project? Instead of stressing over what your boss will think of the finished product, share what you’re working on while it’s in progress. This way, you can get their input and avoid the ol’ “this isn’t what I wanted” play at the end.
  1. ☎️ What’s Up? - When you have a micromanager, oversharing is caring. For example, send them a list of what you’re working on every Monday AM to keep them in the loop. If you’re going to be late for a meeting, let them know ahead of time to cover your butt.
  1. 🗣️ Always a Critic - Got a Critical Chris on your hands? Stay one step ahead and ask for their input on a project before you get started. Take in any criticism ahead of time and share your perspectives as well. Work any valuable feedback in and chuck the rest.
  2. 😎 Charles In Charge - Some bosses love being in charge. Stroke their ego by reminding them they are! Say things like “here’s what I think, but it’s ultimately your call.” When you’re sharing ideas, ask a lot of questions to engage them in conversation. You’ll get better buy in when they feel like they’re in control.
  1. 🌟 Job Well Done - Everyone loves getting a pat on the back every now and then. If you want more approval from your boss, try asking for it! Tell them you’re always looking to improve and value their feedback. Chances are they’ll be more likely to give you a gold star.

🔥Bottom line: If these tips don’t smooth over your relationship with the Boss Man, you can always search for a new gig. Wanna know what the highest paying jobs are these days? We’ve got an article for that. Check it out here and see if anything tickles your fancy.
