Fixer Upper: PA Gets $375M To Repair Crumbling Homes

Pennsylvania has some of the oldest homes in the country. A lot of them are in need of some serious TLC. 🏚️ We're talking *actual* tender loving care, not the next best fixer upper flipper flopper show on the TLC channel. Has anyone done a wellness check on Ty Pennington lately?😆

PA just received a new grant to the tune of $375 million to fix crumbling homes statewide. The funds are part of the leftover pot of COVID relief cash. Speaking of which, where's that extra PA state stimmy check?! 💸

Here’s Five Fast Facts on these new funds:

  1. 💰 Yo, Big Spender! - Before these funds were approved, PA was spending $55M on housing. This new grant boosted housing spending to well over $400M.
  2. 🏠 Stay Put - The program will allow folks in many neighborhoods to stay in their homes while repairs are happening. Super convenient!
  3. 📋 Break It Down - $125M of the funds are going to the Whole Home Repair Program and $150M is for bringing down housing-related costs due to the pandemic. $100M is dedicated to affordable housing construction.
  4. 😅 Sweet Relief - The budget also includes $140M in rent relief and property tax relief. That's a 70% increase from what those programs were before the grant.
  5. 👨🏼‍🦳BINGO! - Officials hope the repairs will help seniors stay in their neighborhood homes. Although, we heard a rumor that nursing home bingo nights get pretty lit.

🔥Bottom line: $375M can do a lot of damage. But it's Opposite Day and by damage, we mean taking PA's crumbling homes to castle-status. Even if the castle is simply a comfortable, cozy home for families to live their lives. A little TLC plus a lot of new funding will hopefully make a lasting impact on PA housing.
