For The Kids: Ohio Schools Get Funding For Meals

We all know kids are hungry little buggers with huge appetites. 🧒🏼🥦 Unfortunately, families all over the country have been struggling to keep food on the table, and the pandemic made things a whole lot worse.

But we have good news! 🗞️ Ohio school meal programs just received millions of dollars to keep kids fed throughout the upcoming school year.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the new food funding:

  1. 🎖️ Nationwide Efforts - This past June, the USDA pledged close to $1 billion for schools to buy US-grown foods for their meal programs. The government also renewed the Keep Kids Fed Act so schools, summer meal sites, and child care food programs have what they need to continue feeding kids through the upcoming school year.
  2. 💸 Funds for Food - Child and adult day care providers in The Buckeye State will get over $78 million in additional funding through the Keep Kids Fed Act.
  3. 📝 Stretch That Deadline - The act also extends summer meal programs through September 2022 at no cost to families.
  4. 😞 Tough Stats - Just weeks into the pandemic, one in three households with kids and nearly half of all mothers with young children struggled with food insecurity.
  5. ✅ Saved By The Bell - Without the Keep Kids Fed Act, many of the USDA-backed resources would have expired on June 30, 2022.

🔥Bottom line: American families shouldn't have to struggle to feed their kids. It's great news that the Keep Kids Fed Act was renewed and more money is on the way. Double great that the funds help local food suppliers get meals and goodies into the hands of the folks who need it the most.
