Fosston Lands $5.8M Investment for Airport

Great news for Fosston! The US Department of Commerce is investing $5.8M to upgrade the airport and create a bunch of new jobs. Yes, Fosston has an airport!

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Fosston’s Airport Investment:

  1. ✈️Up in the Air - The money will be used for the construction of a six-unit hangar at the airport as a way to get airlines to set up fixed terminals.
  2. 🛩️ Industrial Industries - The money will also be used for expanded road, water, wastewater and natural gas capacity for eight new industrial park lots.
  3. 🛬Job, Fair - The money will be matched with $1.4M from local funding estimated to create 250 jobs, retain 100, and generate $50M in private investments.
  4. 🛫No Promises, No Demands - It should be noted that there are no further plans, nor is there any information as to whether or not this is a conditional investment to prevent a Foxconn situation that Wisconsin is stuck with.
  5. ☁️It’s a Gas - The investment came from the $500M available to towns as part of the Economic Assistance Program in the American Rescue Plan Act (aka Build Back Better).

🔥Bottom line: Fosston clearly has a plan to try and get its economy to take off. Get it? Take off like a plane? Sorry about that. Anyway, the move is smart, because it will save some travelers the trouble of driving to the Twin Cities for flights. The 250 new jobs is an added bonus and something that will further give the city the boost it needs. The money was there, why not apply for it?
