Gas Up and Go: 5 Cheap Georgia Getaways

Good news for Georgia wallets: gas prices are down big! 🍑☀️ The state average fell to about $3.53 a gallon in early July and it’s even less in towns like Albany and Warner Robins. 💸 A 15-gallon fill-up now runs around $53, cheaper than a month ago and below the national average.

From mountain waterfalls to a wild horse beach, Georgia is packed with trips that go easy on your budget. 🚗 Most of these spots cost just a few bucks to get in, so the biggest expense is the drive. Let's buckle up and check out five of the best. 🗺️

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Peach State road tripping:

  1. 🏞️ Chasin’ Waterfalls - Up on Lookout Mountain in northwest GA, Cloudland Canyon State Park is a hiker's dream. You park for just $5, then take the Waterfalls Trail down 600 stairs to two waterfalls tucked deep in the gorge. Pro tip: bring water and good shoes, the climb back up is a real workout.
  1. 🐴 Hold Your Horses - Off the GA coast sits Cumberland Island, a spot you can only reach by ferry from St. Marys. The round-trip boat ride runs about $40, plus a $15 park fee, and kids get in free. You can roam empty beaches, spot wild horses, and see an old mansion, just pack your own food since there are no shops.
  1. 🛟 Float On - Helen looks like a little Bavarian village dropped into the North GA mountains. The top summer activity is tubing the Chattahoochee River, called "shooting the Hooch," which costs about $14 to $18 and includes your tube and a shuttle. PS: Try to come back in October, when the town throws a huge Oktoberfest party!
  1. 🐊 Later, Gator - Down in Southern GA, the Okefenokee Swamp is one of the biggest blackwater swamps in North America. A guided boat tour runs about $35 for adults and floats past cypress trees, birds, and lots of alligators. With 12,000 to 15,000 gators living here, you are almost sure to see one.
  1. 🛤️ Off the Rails - Up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the town of Blue Ridge sits about 90 minutes north of Atlanta. Hop on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway for a four-hour ride along the Toccoa River, or cool off with a swim in a clear mountain lake. Tubing, fishing, and hiking are all easy on the wallet up here.

🔥Bottom line: As you can see, you don’t need a plane ticket or a Bezos-sized budget to have an awesome summer in Georgia! With cheap gas and low entry fees, a full tank and a cooler can get you to waterfalls, beaches, mountains, or a gator-filled swamp. Tripper’s choice!
