Go Pack Go (or I’ll Go Out of Business)

The Packers are off to a rough start this season and that could have local Green Bay businesses concerned. Much of their income is tied to game day and if fans don’t show, they could be in serious trouble.

Here’s Five Fast Facts About How A Packers Losing Streak Is Hurting Green Bay:

  1. 🏈 Kickoff - Every Packers home game brings in $15M to the area, with a total annual income of $300M.
  2. 🏟️ Quarterback - Local business owners say that the losing streak hasn’t caused a drop-off in business. In fact, one local bar and grill says they still see a 50% uptick in business every game day.
  3. 💰 Running Back - Officials at the Discover Green Bay tourism association say that fair weather fans or not, the money still rolls in. They also pointed out that there aren’t enough losing seasons over the past 30 years to use as a guide for economic patterns. Sick burn. Packers stay winning (long-term).
  4. 🦠 Interception - The pandemic and lockdowns did show us what a lack of Packers fans can do financially. Remember, two home games during the Rona Season were played in an empty stadium, causing some surrounding local businesses to close for good.
  5. 📉 Losing Team - Really, though, it seems that only the Scum of the Earth… I mean ticket brokers… are feeling the punch of the losing season with their prices dropping.

🔥Bottom line: It’s clear that most of Green Bay’s economy is the Packers. But unlike a lot of other sports cities, a winning record doesn’t impact fan loyalty in the slightest. If the team were to disappear or move, one corner of Wisconsin could all but disappear.
