Google + Grads = Good Jobs!

It's important to prepare our kids for adult life. Part of that is getting them ready for good jobs that contribute to our society in a positive way. Google is partnering with the Nebraska chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors to help out.

Here are Five Fast Facts about the $150k Google grant for job training:

  1. Who Is Impacted? Over 100 high school seniors and recent graduates (mostly from Lincoln and Omaha) will be given pre-apprentice training through a new program.
  2. What Is Provided? The association will provide teachers, career fairs, and job shadow experiences. Google will provide the cost of tuition, books, transportation, child care, and meals,
  3. What's The Point? This program aims to help fill the current record demand for construction and hospitality professionals. (With legal citizens, of course.)
  4. The Bigger Picture - The construction industry needs to not only keep pace with normal hiring, but also supply 600k+ more workers to meet the current demand. (LOTS of legal citizens!
  5. How It Fits In - Google is spending over $1M nationally this year on similar training programs to help meet this demand. The funding in Nebraska will provide for at least 100 students, probably more.

Bottom line: This is great news for teens and recent graduates who are looking for good career jobs (and Paychecks!) but don't want to go to college. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of help to enable good people to succeed, and this is a step in the right direction!
