During the Great Recession, many hourly workers traded up to different careers. Many went back for additional training or schooling. Now Google is teaming up with the state of Michigan to provide access to more career training.
Here’s Five Fast Facts …… :
- 💔 The Damage - Covid did a number on Michigan jobs in 2020, sending unemployment rates skyrocketing from around 4% to 22% in just a matter of weeks. That’s a faster decline than a Kardashian relationship.
- 🐌 A Slow Return - The state unemployment rate is back to around 4%, but many are still looking to switch careers or advance. That’s where Google comes in.
- 🔎 Search No More - Google has partnered with the State of Michigan to provide no-cost career training to up to 500 people. The partnership will center around good-paying careers like Data Analytics, IT Support, Digital Marketing, Project Management, and UX Design.
- 📚 Hit the Books - The programs are all designed to be completed within three to six months if you’re studying part-time. No experience is required, and once you’ve completed the program, you’ll be connected to over 150 employers looking for your rad new skills.
- 🤑 The Results - The program launched in 2018, and more than 70,000 people have used it. 75% of those who complete the course report that they either landed a new job or got a raise or promotion within six months. Cheers to them.
