May isn't just for flowers and Justin Timberlake memes, as much as we love them. It's also Professional Trades Month in Michigan. Did you know that the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) predicts that by 2028, there will be 47,000 openings in the professional and skilled trades? Which jobs are the hottest right now? Let's find out.
Here's the Top 5 Professional Trade Industries Hiring Right Now …… :
- ⚙️ Advanced Manufacturing - That's right; this ain't just manufacturing – this is advanced manufacturing. The manufacturing environment of the future is 3D modeling, computer programming, and lasers. Frickin lasers! Pay for these jobs is around $1276 a week, which is higher than the state average. So, add a cha-ching with your lasers!!!
- 🚗 Automotive - Yes, Michigan is still known as being the world's automotive capital. And to retain that title, we need the next generation of skilled workers to step into these sought-after positions. Jobs in this field include Automotive Repair, Service Technicians and Mechanics, Machine Assembly, and more. The average pay for a technician is about $22/hour.
- 👷 Construction - If you build it, they will come. And if you build it with infrastructure money from Biden's "Build Back Better" plan, you'll put more people to work. A general laborer in this field can expect to make around $36k/year. Specialized laborers (electricians, carpenters, etc.) can earn double or even triple that amount.
- ⚕️ Healthcare - Have a passion for helping people? Healthcare may just be your jam. Michigan is experiencing a shortage of home healthcare workers, personal care aides, and nursing aides. Hourly pay for home healthcare workers starts at around $14/hr.
- 💥 Energy - Energy is a booming industry right now (pun intended) and is expected to grow for several years. Jobs include lineman, wind turbine repair, technicians, and power plant workers. The average salary for a lineman is almost $47k/year. You do kinda have to like heights, though.
🔥Bottom line: Professional and skilled trades are good-paying, dependable jobs. We will see more of them open up over the next few years -- so if you're not happy with the job you're in, now may be the time to jump ship into a career that's right for you.
