Whether you're trying to find a new job or bring in new customers, the saying, "it's who you know" gets thrown around a lot, and for good reason: it's true. Nowadays, when LinkedIn makes it easier than ever to connect with countless people, you really need a personal connection to stand out from the crowd. But how do you get the best of both worlds, using the expansive reach of LinkedIn to get the personal connections that are needed to actually land that sweet new gig or client? Good news, we've got you covered!
Here are Five Fast Facts on using LinkedIn to get awesome results:
- 🔍 Focus, Daniel-san - It doesn't take hours scrolling your feed, enduring the corporate announcements that no one cares about or the obnoxious Insta quotes that no one believes. It takes a plan and a willingness to focus on that plan to deliver results!
- 💬 Comment Strategery - Set aside just 10 minutes each day to comment where your potential jobs or clients are. Be thoughtful and genuine. Save the URLs for active accounts with audiences similar to yours and visit these regularly. These folks will see your genius insights and eventually begin engaging with you, too.
- 📝 Go Postal - Spend some time writing five articles each week. Maybe you're not a writer, but if you have good thoughts on content that matters -- whether success stories, lessons learned from mistakes, or expertise -- the point will get across even if you're a bit clumsy in the delivery (which will get better over time, anyway). End with a question or call to action to try to engage your readers. Post the best three of the five each week, then keep an eye on the comments and engage thoughtfully with all of them.
- 👀 Study, Study, Study - When you see posts that draw your attention, study them! What made you want to read them, and what makes you want to engage with the poster? Replicate that. Don't copy, replicate. Do your thing, in your voice, on your topic. But learn from those who have gone before.
- 🤝 Slide In - As you begin gaining followers and interacting with more people, you'll begin connecting with people in direct messages (DMs). That's where you build familiarity and relationships, and that's what leads to new jobs or customers. Ask good questions, give good answers. Be genuine and meaningful. Don't waste your time or theirs. It'll lead to good things.
🔥Bottom line: All of this should be doable in about 30 minutes per day, give or take. But it won't happen overnight, so give it time and keep your focus. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your LinkedIn network! And make sure you track which posts get attention and interaction, and which ones lead to successful outcomes so you can tweak in a direction that keeps things moving forward. LinkedIn is an incredible tool, but it's an incredible tool for everyone, meaning it's hard to get noticed. This process will help you make real connections in a way that brings real results.
