Is Eating Inflation Making You Sick?!

Share this image with your friends so that they can suck a bit less!

Inflation can make you do some crazy things...especially when it comes to food! 😵‍💫 And no, we're not talking about taking candy from a baby (yet.) 👶🍭

Now more than ever, Americans are playing a bit of Fear Factor when it comes to eating things past expiration dates. Is this smart budgeting, or is it bad for your health? Because the hospital bills from eating that funky chicken in the back of the fridge might just be a teeeeeeeny bit more expensive than buying it fresh! 🍗🤢

Here’s Five Fast Facts on food and inflation:

  1. 🙊 Does It Pass the Smell Test?! - A recent survey of 2,000 Americans found that almost half (46%) are eating food past their expiration and “use-by” dates to save money.
  2. 🥛 Sour Milk Social Club - Almost 40% polled said they'd eat bread after it expired, but only 23% said they would drink milk past the expiration date. Foods least likely to be eaten after expiration dates are yogurt (14%) and uncooked meat (17%).
  3. 🍪 Snack Attack - The food most likely to be eaten past the expiration date is potato chips/snacks (56.5%). Runners up are cereal (50.4%) and cookies/candy (47.9%).
  4. 😖 Just Eat Around It! - Almost 40% of people say they will remove ‘bad bits’ from food so it can still be eaten.
  5. 🌱 Veganism Takes an L - Only 1.2% of Americans describe themselves as vegans today, which is down from over 4%, but 101% of those die-hard vegans will GLADLY tell you all about it.

🔥Bottom line: All bad milk jokes aside, it's sad that so many Americans are being hit this hard by the rise in grocery prices. Everyone should have access to fresh food, and so much of it still goes to waste, even in these tough times. Need a tip? Try grocery shopping on Wednesdays to take advantage of the best deals. Grab your store's loyalty card and clip those coupons to get the most bang for your buck.

HOLD ON! Before you leave: The only thing that makes us sicker than the green eggs and ham in our fridge is that less than 27% of Americans vote in their local elections

Help spread the word: if you don’t vote… you kind of suck.
