Hey, what do you call a pothead with two spliffs? Double jointed! 🤪 We see you cracking a smile.
The 4/20 high holiday might be behind us, but we’ve got our bloodshot eyes on a brand new bill! 🌿Could this one be the magic maker that legalizes recreational weed? Here’s the latest! 👇
Here’s Five Fast Facts on recreational weed in PA:
- 💨 Toke It Economy - A new bill that allows Pennsylvanians 21 and older to legally purchase marijuana just sailed through the PA House. This marks the first time such a bill made it through a state legislative chamber. Democrats voted to pass it unanimously, but the bill received unanimous opposition from Republicans.
- 💰 Penjamin Franklin - Back in February, Gov. Shapiro included a push for legalization in his budget. He also proposed that doing so would boost PA’s revenue by $1.3 billion in the first five years. Shapiro wants to use the new revenue stream to pay for Medicare, improve public transportation, and give some TLC to poor public schools.
- ⚖️ Pros and Nos - Those in favor of the bill say that legalization will create jobs and make weed safer and affordable for consumers. Naysayers argue that legalizing weed will increase usage and cause health and safety problems. Another big hangup: marijuana is still illegal on a federal level.
- 🍸 Liquor In the Front - According to the bill, recreational weed sales would be managed by the state-owned liquor store system. However, the actual sales would happen in other retail locations. The PA Liquor Control Board would serve as a regulator (set prices, ensure quality, etc.).
- 🪪 State of Affairs - Right now, only medical marijuana is legal in Pennsylvania and that passed back in 2016. If you don’t have a medical card, you’ll have to hop across to a neighbor state where recreational weed sales are legal. The ganja is legal in 24 states, including New Jersey and Delaware.
🔥Bottom line: Will this bill make it through the Senate? We’ll keep you posted as things light up! On a health kick but don’t wanna blow your budget? News flash: some of those “healthy” foods are overpriced and not nutritious. Curious? Check it all out in this article.
