Janesville Lands New Repair Facility, Expects Jobs

Looks like Janesville is about to have some new jobs available. The city council approved a Tax Increment Financing Developing agreement with GEA Mechanical Equipment for a new facility.

Here’s Five Fast Facts …… :

  1. 🏢🙂Say Who? - GEA Mechanical Equipment, also known as the GEA Group. They’re a global supplier for systems and components to the food, beverage and pharmaceutical industries. They have employees in 62 different countries.
  2. 🏗️ Say What? - They’ll build an 85,000 sq. ft. building for some unspecified kind of repair facility.
  3. 👷How Many? - GEA has agreed to hire 74 full-time positions at the facility with pay that meets living wage equivalent standards. So they’re not short-changing anyone here.
  4. 🤑How Much? - The project is projected to produce an $8.5M increase in property value and a $200,000 annual increase in tax windfall for the city.
  5. 📅So When? - Construction is expected to begin in the fall. But no one is certain what exactly GEA will be repairing in the facility. And there’s no word on when hiring will commence.

🔥Bottom line: Janesville has long suffered since GM pulled out in 2008 and it’s been slowly on the rebound for quite awhile. New jobs coming in is always a good thing for any town, but it’s even better for Janesville. Just keep your fingers crossed that it doesn’t turn into another Foxconn deal since there are no conditions on those tax credits…
