Jobs Update In WA State

We hope you’ve got a great job that you love and that provides a great paycheck! Unfortunately, more and more people are NOT in that situation. Reporting bad economic news is about as fun as a root canal, but an ugly truth is still better than a pretty lie, right?

Here are Five Fast Facts about the latest jobs report for Washington State:

  1. 📈 Up And Up - According to the Employment Security Department (ESD), the Evergreen State’s unemployment rate has now gone up for five months in a row. It’s the highest rate since September 2021 during the height of the pandemic. Join us while we cringe at that fact.
  1. 😣 Comparisons Suck - The actual rate was 4.7%, quite a bit higher than the national average of 4%. We normally like topping lists…just not this one.
  1. 👍 Winners - Some industries are still seeing growth. This includes education and health services (added 24k jobs), government (added 21k jobs), and leisure and hospitality (added 16k jobs). Guess it pays to work in a helping profession for once!
  1. 👎 Losers - The bad news was worst in construction (lost 9k jobs) and information (lost 8k jobs).
  1. 🗺️ By County - King County had the lowest unemployment in the state, at 4.4%. The highest was Ferry County, at just over 11%. Location, location, location…for good or bad!

🔥Bottom line: On second thought, maybe a pretty lie is better.
