Kneeland Site To Get a $3.2M Makeover

Milwaukee’s long-dead and ugly Kneeland Site is about to see new life thanks to a $3.2M Investment from the US Department of Economic Development.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the Kneeland Development Project:

  1. 🚧Built Up - The Kneeland site has pretty much been cut off from the city for quite awhile. The money came from the American Rescue Plan Act (aka Build Back Better) and will be used to build roads and infrastructure for an industrial park and businesses. It will also be used to clean up some contaminants.
  2. 💰Matching Moolah - The investment will be matched from almost $800,000 in local funding and is estimated to create 140 jobs and $10.5M in private investment.
  3. 👷Version 2.0 - It’s now slated to be part of the Menomonee Valley 2.0 Project, which intends to combine food and beverage manufacturing with waterfront shopping and dining.
  4. 🚶‍♀️On Your Left - Part of the land will also connect with the Menomonee Valley Riverwalk for both pedestrians and cyclists.
  5. 🏗️Roll Coal - The Kneeland site was used as a coal storage yard for almost 100 years and has been on deck for redevelopment for probably half as long.

🔥Bottom line: Not to throw shade, but that Kneeland site is an eyesore. It’s the one under Highway 43. Have you driven by lately? It’s pretty heinous. It’s good to see they have a plan and that they’ll make it a place people want to actually go (and look at). Here’s hoping renovation starts sooner rather than later.
