Let the Green Rush Begin: Weed is Legal in Minnesota

A good chunk of Minnesota residents (including former governor, advocate, and Predator hunter Jesse Ventura) have reason to celebrate: Gov. Walz just signed a bill that legalized recreational marijuana.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Minnesota’s Legal Weed:

  1. 💚Going Green - Recreational weed will be legal to possess, use, and grow at home starting Aug. 1. Possession of cannabis flower is limited to 2 lbs. at home and 2 oz. in public while edibles are capped at 800 mg and cannabis concentrate is limited to 8 g.
  2. 3️⃣Minnesota Triad - The bill passed due to Democrats controlling congress, the senate, and the governor’s office. Previous attempts were blocked by Republican majorities.
  3. 🕊️Set Them Free - Minnesotans convicted of petty misdemeanor and misdemeanor possession get their records immediately expunged, but it will take until August 2024 to get them all processed. Other possession-related cases may be able to apply for a reduced sentence.
  4. 🛍️Thanks For Shopping - Buying recreational weed at a dispensary is estimated to start next year. Those stores will be charged sales tax and a 10% cannabis tax. The state has learned from its mistake and will make sure there’s tax money flowing. Warm up your green thumb until then.
  5. 😎Cool Kids - Minnesota is now the 23rd state to legalize recreational weed. A total of 38 states and territories, including the District of Columbia, have legalized it in some other form. The remaining 12 states are run by people who either don’t like fun or have serious health concerns about widespread marijuana use, especially amongst young people.

🔥Bottom line: Walz has been promising this since he was elected and he made good on that promise. Regardless of how you feel about it, the taxes are going to provide a nice financial bump for the state.

How do you feel about legal weed? Is this a good move?
