Here’s Five Fast Facts on Ohio’s turkeys:

  1. 🏆 Top Turkey - When it comes to turkey raising, Ohio’s a major player. In 2024, the state produced roughly 6.4 million turkeys, or 3.2% of all birds raised for the U.S. market.
  1. 🪶 Bird’s the Word - Ohio turkey sales brought in around $153 million last year. And because size matters, the average turkey produced in Ohio weighed in at 42.7 pounds. That’s almost 10 pounds over the national average. 
  1. 🍽️ It’s Giving - Americans love Thanksgiving…and their yearly big bird. In 2008, overall turkey production hit a high of 7.9 BILLION pounds! In 2024, it dropped down to 6.5 billion. We’ll pass on the Tofurkey.
  1. 📈 Gravy Train - Compared to other states, Ohio ranks number 8 for the most turkeys produced. Another fun fact: most turkey production in the U.S. (86%) happens in 13 states.
  1. 🤠 Southern Hospitality - Who’s the top turkey producer in the country? North Carolina with 15.5%. Other top turkeys include Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, and Minnesota.
