Big and beautiful: great for describing curvy queens. 💅 Everything else? The jury's still very much out. 😅
Changes to the SNAP program outlined in the Big Beautiful Bill could leave many in need. New work requirements and spending cuts might force some American families to look elsewhere for assistance. ✂️
With that in mind, here are several other places to find help…in a snap. 🫰
Here’s Five Fast Facts on getting help with food costs:
- 🚼 Kid’s Corner - If you’re pregnant or have children under the age of six in your care, look into the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program. WIC provides those who qualify with an EBT card to use at the grocery store to buy food, breastfeeding supplies, nutrition support, and more. To get set up, you’ll need to set up an appointment with your local WIC agency.
- 🛒 Food Finder - Another great place to stock up is your local community food distribution site. To find one near you, head to your state’s website and look for a food resources section. You can also text FINDFOOD (or COMIDA en Espanol) to 888-976-2232 to find the closest pantry.
- 🧑🌾 To the Market - If you’re 60 or older and have an income at or below 185% of federal poverty income guidelines, check out the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP). The program provides coupons you can use to purchase food at farmers' markets (and roadside stands, too). Get more information through your state’s website.
- 🍓 Stocking Up - Another program for those 60 and up is the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP). This federally-sponsored program distributes nutritious food staples through state agencies. Check your state’s guidelines for eligibility, as requirements may vary. Across all states, income limits have to be at or below 150% the federal poverty income guidelines.
- 🚛 Keep Rollin’ - Meals on Wheels has been in it for the long haul. This senior-focused meal delivery service gets food to over 2 million seniors every year through its thousands of community partners. On top of food support, Meals on Wheels also provides seniors with community dining opportunities, social programs, transportation assistance, and more.
🔥Bottom line: The future of SNAP may be up in the air for many, but these resources can really come in clutch if you need them.
