Low Gas Prices In Summertime?

Imagine your family road trip getting interrupted by global drama - and suddenly the price of gas is doing the cha-cha-cha. That’s what’s happening thanks to the Iran-Israel standoff. But, surprise! Despite fears of $5/gallon doom gas, prices are actually chilling around $3.20. Let’s break down this pump pressure:

Here are Five Fast Facts on surprisingly reasonable gas prices:

  1. ☀️ Summer Blend Jitters - Every May, pumps switch to "summer blend" gas (less smog, more bucks). This year bumped prices from $3 to about $3.21/gallon, much cooler than last year's $3.50ish.
  1. 👍 Big Impact - Around two-thirds of consumers say they'd drive five minutes out of their way to save $.05/gallon on gas, so gas prices obviously have a big impact on the economy. You might think people are cheap, but life is anything but cheap now, so it's more likely people are just being savvy.
  1. 🚗 Road Trip - The number of Americans road tripping this summer is up 7% from last year. In fact, people drove more in April of this year than at any time since before the pandemic.
  1. 📈 Record Highs - US oil production is hitting record highs of 13.6 million barrels per day. The US has become a net exporter of oil again!
  1. 💥 Conflict In Life, But Not At The Pump - Even after Israel and Iran exchanged bombing parties, crude oil prices dropped to around $67/barrel. U.S. near-record supplies and OPEC production output kept things chill.

🔥Bottom line: So when your parents grip the steering wheel wondering if gas is about to cost more than your concert ticket - tell them not to panic. For now, thanks to U.S. production and international hush-hush, gas prices are more “just another summer chore” than “get a second mortgage.” Whether we’re on the road or not, our wallets are sure glad for that!
