Michigan Is Great For Businesses!

Michigan has been on a bender for business over the last few years, and it’s starting to show. In the last two years alone, we’ve landed $16 billion in projects and 16k new jobs, mostly in EVs, clean energy, and related fields. This has helped the state move up in the rankings to one of the best states for businesses to set up shop. We’ve always known this is a great place to be, but now the national press is starting to notice, too.

Here are Five Fast Facts on Michigan being great for businesses:

  1. 🏅 Top 10 Baby! - Each year, CNBC ranks each state in terms of how great it is for business, and this year Michigan landed at #10! Take that, Wisconsin!
  1. 📝 How They Decided - They used a bunch of factors, including 10 broad categories and 86 specific metrics. All of them are things that businesses use when deciding where to build and invest, and that states use to try to lower costs and improve life for their folks.
  1. 🎉 The Highlight Reel - Several notable category finishes include 6th for the cost of doing business (we were 9th last year), 7th for the cost of living (12th last year), and 12th for tech and innovation (15th last year). Cue the post-touchdown celebration dance!
  1. 📉 Low Unemployment - A consistent win that we’ve had is our unemployment rate - it was 3.7% in May, not far off from the all-time low of 3.2% clear back in early 2000!
  1. 😲 Responsible Governance?! - The Michigan legislature recently passed a bipartisan balanced budget. Does this sort of thing even happen anymore?? It did here! #shocking

🔥Bottom line: Some might question some of those project and job numbers, but recognition like this is definitely good news! Even if some of those don’t pan out, it’s still a sign that we’re doing a lot of things right, and that means lots of good Paychecks for good people!
