Michigan Passes Record Low Number Of New Laws

Michigan's lawmakers have done quite a number in 2025. Depending on who you ask, they've either excelled...or they've drastically underachieved. Either way, it's quite the tug-of-war, and we've got the details!

Here are Five Fast Facts about record-breaking new laws in 2025:

  1. 🎤 Mic Drop - Michigan lawmakers cranked out just 74 new laws in 2025. That's a whopping 81% crash from the usual 383 laws per year over the last 20 years! It's like vacation mode on steroids!
  1. 🤏 Child's Play - This beats the old record low of 168 laws (from 2021) and is the fewest ever since the adoption of the state constitution in 1963.
  1. 💪 Too Hot - Republican House Speaker Matt Hall was thrilled, and wants to see another new record next year. He claims all the Democrats' good ideas have already been done, and now it's just the junk left over that isn't worth doing.
  1. 😞 Too Cold - Democrat Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks disagrees, calling the lack of bills "unfortunate" for people depending on the state to take action on various issues.
  1. 👍 Not A Total Stalemate - Some things did get passed despite the bickering. A road funding bill added about $1.8 billion a year to fix those monster potholes we all know and love. Funding comes from a new 24% tax on wholesale weed.

🔥Bottom line: Holy gridlock, Batman! Whichever side of this you're on, Michigan's lawmakers basically turned "doing nothing" into an Olympic sport. Whether you're in favor of reducing government and taxation, or think there should be more of both, it's clear this battle will resume this year, so stay tuned for more fireworks!
