Michigan Taps AI To Help Train Workforce Of Tomorrow

Imagine if you lived a century ago and worked at the carriage wheel factory. One day your boss comes in and tells you that there's this new thing called a "car" that is going to take your job away. But here's the kicker: this new thing is actually going to help you move onward and upward to a new job! What kind of a twilight zone would you be living in? As it turns out, the same kind of twilight zone that a lot of Michigan workers are in today. But the state has rolled out a new plan for helping workers use AI rather than get replaced by it.

Here are Five Fast Facts on Michigan's plan to help workers adapt and use AI:

  1. 😞😀 The Bad News - AI is only going to have more impact on loads of jobs going forward. Michigan's plan suggests almost three million jobs will be impacted. But it could produce 130,000 brand new jobs along the way, for an economic impact of around $70 billion! AI shepherds, perhaps?
  1. 🤔 What's The Point - Sure, it's nice to get the convenience of AI doing menial tasks we don't like, but there's more to it than that. It's about helping people figure out ways to grow and work alongside AI rather than be replaced by it.
  1. 💪 Pillars Of Strength - The plan has three key pillars focused on helping workers learn the skills needed to handle the AI economy, as well as helping businesses to utilize AI tools to grow and thrive.
  1. 👏 For All - Another key focus of the plan is to make sure small businesses aren't left behind. Funding and assistance programs will be structured so that any size of business will have access to the resources they need to adapt to using AI.
  1. 🎓 Train Up - There are numerous proposals in the plan for creating apprenticeships and other training programs, including industry-specific programs and curriculum development for schools.

🔥Bottom line: In the future, the presence of AI will only increase, so the premium will be on interacting with actual people who can make decisions and relate on a human level. So, you might be (rightly) concerned that AI is coming for your job, but what if AI can help you move on to a better job? Wouldn't it be worth a bit of investment to make that a reality? That's what Michigan is planning for.
