Michigan's job market is apparently playing a game of "now you see me, now you don't!" After what felt like ages of going up, the state's unemployment rate finally decided to take a little dip. It's not a massive plunge, but hey, every little bit counts when you're talking about getting people back to work! Let’s check it out!
Here are Five Fast Facts about Michigan's unemployment rate:
- 🤏 Slim Trim - Michigan's unemployment rate had a tiny trim, shrinking by just one-tenth of a percentage point down to 5.3% in June 2025. It's like the unemployment rate went on a diet and it worked…just a little bit.
- 👇 Down And Down - This marked the second month in a row that Michigan's jobless rate decided to tick downwards. Maybe it's a new trend, or maybe the jobs just realized how fun it is to be found!
- 🥱 Bye Pajamas! - The number of folks who were officially "fun-employed" (aka unemployed) in Michigan actually dropped by 6,000 in June. That's 6,000 more people who might be trading their pajamas for work clothes. Unless they're working from home, that is.
- 🫤 Moderate The Celebration - Even with the decline, Michigan's jobless rate in June was still a whopping 1.2 percentage points higher than the national average (which was 4.1%). It seems Michigan likes to stand out from the crowd, but it's unfortunate that it's for being a lot more jobless!
- 📉 Un-Silver Lining - However, the overall number of people in Michigan's labor force actually got reduced by 9,000 in June. So while fewer people were unemployed, that's because fewer people were working or even looking for work. It's like some folks just gave up and decided to retire early to their couches.
🔥Bottom line: So, there you have it. Michigan's job market is a rollercoaster with some surprising twists and turns. While the unemployment rate is creeping down, it's clear there's still plenty of challenge for job seekers in the Great Lakes State.
