Milwaukee Takes Jobs Into the Third Dimension

Formlabs, one of the leading companies making 3-D Printers, has set up a new regional headquarters in Milwaukee thanks to some nifty tax credits. And they’re promising jobs as part of the multi-dimensional package!

Here’s Five Fast Facts about Formlabs’ Expansion:

  1. 🖨️Science! - The new facility covers 20,000 square feet and features a print farm and a pair of showrooms loaded with unique 3-D parts. No word if the print farm includes 3-D printed dairy cows that produce 3-D printed milk and cheese.
  2. 🔬Cash Up Front? - The Wisconsin Development Corp, a public-private agency, gave the company a $675,000 conditional tax credit. If Formlabs doesn’t produce those jobs, they have to give the money back. It’s refreshing to see how much we’ve learned since Foxconn.
  3. 🧪Why Milwaukee? - Formlabs says it’s because Milwaukee is the world’s “original machine shop” and has a large pool of engineering and business talent. There’s a good chance the tax credit had something to do with it, too.
  4. ⚗️Numbers - The company has promised 100 jobs over the next three years. The facility is open and starting to staff up.
  5. 🧫So, jobs? - There’s no word on who or what positions they’re hiring, but you can bet some sales rep positions will be available. Since they have to do it within three years, hiring should start soon.

🔥Bottom line: Hiring shortage? Say what? Wisconsin keeps attracting businesses, manufacturers, and companies by using tax credits. Since those tax credits are situational, jobs are being filled. Other states might want to take a cue from how we do things (as well as the salaries that are offered) if they want to attract and keep businesses and reduce that unemployment rate.
