The class of 2023 in Minnesota high schools may get a leg up when it comes to college enrollment, thanks the new Direct Admissions Program.
Here’s Five Fast Facts about Direct College Admission:
- 🎓Pre-Approved - The program lets graduating students know if they qualify for admission to up to 50 colleges and universities throughout the state. It also eliminates the application fees.
- 🏫You’ve Been Served - Qualifying students are then notified of their admissions based on their academic records and graduation date.
- ✋Helping Hand - Supporters say this process helps students in marginalized communities and eliminates self-selection bias (“that school would never take someone like me”).
- ✔️Not the First - Wisconsin is considering their own version of the program while Idaho and Hawaii have had similar programs for quite awhile.
- 📃Make a List - Participating colleges can be found here.
🔥Bottom line: Before you start screaming about handouts or socialism or the weather dominator, this program ONLY eliminates the financial application fee and encourages them to stay in the state. It’s not a free ride. The students still have to pay to go to college. Cool your jets.
Guess what? The President doesn't impact college admissions...but your local & state government reps do! Here’s three small things you can do that make a BIG impact:
