Minnesota Kicks off The Summer of Jobs

Minnesota’s Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) has just released data that says there are a record number of job openings. As a result, Gov. Walz is canceling Hot Girl Summer and launching “The Summer of Jobs” Campaign aimed at filling those vacancies.

Here’s Five Fast Facts About The Summer of Jobs:

  1. 🔼How High? - Those vacancies are higher than Aunt Dathel’s BMI: we’re talking 214,000 open jobs, with 127,000 of those in the Twin Cities metro area alone.
  2. 🔽Down Low - Surprisingly, DEED says unemployment is at a record low. We’re basically creating jobs faster than we can fill them.
  3. ☀️Some Are, Some Aren’t - A DEED Spokesperson said the Summer of Jobs program will find ways to connect employers with job seekers. That’s pretty vague, but that’s what they’re going with.
  4. 🚛 Who Goes Where? - There are three main areas of focus: healthcare, truck driving and manufacturing. However, about 2/3rds of the open jobs require nothing more than a high school diploma or GED
  5. 👍Who Goes There? - The program also will focus on candidates who are often overlooked including immigrants, people with disabilities and ex-convicts.

🔥Bottom line: All the open jobs are a promising sign for the economy’s bounce back, because it shows growth. But at the same time, handing out jobs like Oprah gives out cars might discourage people from pursuing higher education and taking a quick payday.
