Are you ready for some legal weed? If the state legislature has its way, recreational marijuana could be legalized in 2023.
Here’s Five Fast Facts on Legal Weed in Minnesota:
- 😶🌫️ Real Reality - Legalization efforts were previously blocked by a Republican-controlled Senate. Thanks to a Democratic sweep of both chambers in the midterm elections, that’s no longer an issue.
- 🚬 Sexual Tyrannosaurus - Gov. Walz has told former Gov. Jesse Ventura it could be one of the first bills he signs after the start of the year. Ventura is a fierce advocate for marijuana legalization and one of two actors in the award-winning documentary Predator to be elected governor.
- 😮 Puff Puff… Pass? - The state legislature did pass a bill earlier this year that legalized THC in edible or drinkable form if it’s derived from hemp instead of “full strength” marijuana. Republicans voted for the bill by accident, thinking they were legalizing Delta-8 cannabis.
- 🫁 Dollars and Sense - Hopefully the legislature can get its act together this time. It looks like edibles aren’t being taxed enough and the state is missing out on a huge financial gain.
- 🗳️ The Cool Kids - There are 21 other states that have legalized recreational use, with Maine and Maryland being the latest. North Dakota, South Dakota, and Arkansas rejected it during the midterm elections. Obviously those states are filled with a bunch of narcs.
🔥Bottom line: Here’s yet another example of how voting in the midterms can pay off based on what you support. If done right this time, Minnesota Democrats, marijuana advocates, and Jesse Ventura could have a big win on their hands.
