Move Here and Work Elsewhere From Here

Programs that have offered money for businesses to create jobs in their state have been around for decades. But since there’s been a large shift to remote work, that money is being offered to the workers themselves. Except Wisconsin is lagging behind in that trend.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on Wisconsin Worker Incentives:

  1. 🖥️ Big Lure - States are largely targeting higher earning white-collar remote jobs, with the idea that they’ll help stimulate the local economy.
  2. 💻 More than Half - A total of 71 municipalities in 29 states (including most of the midwest) have statewide and local programs that get workers to relocate from out of state and then live and work there for a minimum amount of time among other conditions.
  3. 📱 Dolla Dolla Bill - Incentives could be anything from cash (up to $15,000!) to down payments on a home construction or purchase to property to even student loan payments.
  4. 🖱️ One Stop Shop - Incentives have become so lucrative for workers that there’s now an online marketplace where those willing to relocate can basically shop to find the best deal for their needs.
  5. ⌨️ Home Office - Two communities in Wisconsin (Fon du Lac County and the City of Merrill) are offering incentives while Milwaukee is considering incentive programs.

🔥Bottom line: When the pandemic hit, it seemed like remote work was a brief novelty and a passing fad. Obviously, it’s here to stay and can be quite lucrative to anyone who’s willing to make a change.
