Nail Your Next Interview with Grittiness

While Gritty's busy causing a commotion among mascots everywhere, your own grittiness could cause some commotion (of the good kind) in your next interview. 🤩💼

Today's hiring managers are looking beyond that fancy diploma. 🎓 They want to know if you can handle the heat. 🥵

Here’s Five Fast Facts on how to show “grit” in an interview:

  1. 🔥 Through the Fire - Grit is now one of the top skills employers look for in candidates. This quality can predict how hardworking someone is and how well they can weather the storm when times get tough. In today's crazy economy, grit's needed more than ever.
  1. 🫨 Under Pressure - How do you know if an interview is sizing you up for grittiness? They'll ask you questions about how well you handle pressure and might ask for an example. They may also ask about your career goals and any challenges you've overcome along the way.
  1. 👀 Stay Focused - Interviewers also want to know how well you can focus on long-term projects. They may ask how you pushed through a project with a lot of twists and turns, or how you got sh*t done in a tight timeframe.
  2. 🏆 Showing Off - Need some examples? As you prep for your interview, think back on specific times where you had to adapt quickly to changes. Also highlight situations that show your willingness to recover gracefully after making mistakes.
  1. 🙋🏻‍♀️ Before You Go - Don't feel like you showed enough grit? Don't be afraid to share that one special story before you wrap up. Chances are the interviewer will appreciate your willingness to provide the extra info.

🔥Bottom line: It's easy to tell an interviewer where you went to school or how many certifications you have. It's a little tougher to master the art of storytelling. If you need help breaking the ice with a hiring manager, check out our article on how to step up your small talk game
