How do you do good in the world and create jobs at the same time? Easy, you just capture gas and pump it underground for permanent storage (OBVIOUSLY)! At least, that’s what one company is doing in Western Nebraska.
Here are Five Fast Facts about Carbon America’s new project:
- 3️⃣ The Mission - Carbon America is tackling climate change with a 3-phase process to remove CO2 from the atmosphere. It’s on the cutting edge of the carbon industry, and recently landed some major funding to lead there.
- 😮💨 The Project - They just announced a project with Bridgeport Ethanol for a new carbon capture/storage facility in Bridgeport, Nebraska.
- ☀️The Numbers - It is projected to capture and store 175k tons of CO2 every year. That’s enough to cover 95% of the CO2 emissions from the neighboring ethanol facility. It will transfer the gas through a new pipeline to a permanent underground storage site.
- 🏭 The Layout - It’s the first of its kind in the state, but the third such project for Carbon America in recent months. It is supposed to begin operation in 2024.
- 👍😀 The Win - Nebraska is the 2nd largest producer of ethanol, so this is a huge win for both CO2 emissions control in general and the local economy.
🔥Bottom line: Whether you are all about climate change or all about jobs for the local economy, this is good news!
