New PennDOT Funding Goes to PA Railroads

What was your favorite song on the Jock Jams soundtrack? ⛹️🎶 We know you used to slam dunk to 2 Unlimited’s “Ready for This.” Can't forget about Tag Team’s “WHOOMP There It Is!” 🎉

But who could forget when the Quad City DJ’s told us all to “come on ride the train, it’s a choo-choo!?” 🚆 And speaking of trains, all aboard ‘cuz PA’s railroads just got some serious cash.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on funding for PA’s rail projects:

  1. 👑 Rail Royalty - PennDOT recently announced their plans to fund 30 rail projects across Pennsylvania. The Keystone State is home to 65 operating railroads, more than any other state in the nation. Freight lines make up around 5,600 railroad miles.
  1. 🚂 Million-Dollar Moves - PennDOT will invest in 30 PA rail projects, to the tune of roughly $53 million. Most of the projects will go towards improving freight mobility and also support around 450 jobs.
  2. 🛤️ On Track - This latest round of funding continues a trend of PA prioritizing rail projects. Since Shapiro took office in 2023, the administration has ponied up more than $150 million.
  1. 👷🏽‍♂️ Workin’ On the Railroad - Several projects got multi-million dollar boosts. Out west, $4 million will head to the Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad to improve the Main Line and P&W Subdivisions.
  1. 💰 Smooth Improvements - Heading east, Delco’s Contrail will get $1.7 million to make improvements at Stony Creek Yard. Lancaster County’s Strasburg Rail Road will pick up $1.2 million.
