Ohio's $6B Spending Bill: Where Will the Money Go?

Looks like Santa's sleigh has a big sack of cash for Ohio...to the tune of $6B! 🧑🏻🎄💰

After what's being called a "marathon session", the OH General Assembly recently passed the latest spending bill. 💸 There's a little bit of everything on the state's wish list, from funding for schools to legal assistance for Ukrainian refugees.

Here’s Five Fast Facts on the new spending bill:

  1. 🎒Cash for the Kids - $1.75 billion goes to Ohio's schools. At least 20% of the funds a school receives must go toward addressing pandemic-related learning loss. Schools also get $112 million to spend on improving security, and each school can claim up to $100,000.
  1. 💡 Turn the Lights On - $161 million will be set aside for payment toward outstanding rent and utility payments for certain households.
  1. 🏥 Healthy and Happy - Nursing homes will receive $350 million in “workforce relief payments.” $170 million goes to Ohio’s hospitals. An additional $62 million goes to critical access and rural hospitals, and urban hospitals get an extra $6.5 million.
  1. 😋🍲Full Tummies - $25 million will go to the Ohio Association of Food Banks and community food assistance programs. An additional $5 million goes to the Children’s Hunger Alliance.

  2. ⚖️ Legal Fees - The bill also set aside $5 million for the legal expenses of Ukrainian refugees. The money will be paid out through the Ohio Access to Justice Foundation.

🔥Bottom line: In addition to all of these wish list items, funds will also go towards home health care, lead poisoning prevention, and grants for adoptive parents. We're happy to see nursing homes getting some assistance since they've been riding the struggle bus lately. OH food banks can restock as well, because keeping families fed is always a good thing.
